Dear Elizabeth,

Welcome to Radiant Being’s 70th Issue! I’m both amazed and encouraged that nearly 10, 000 readers receive this newsletter monthly! I’m head over heals thrilled that people want to receive practices that I love and live by, and I’m so happy to share them with you.

To truly listen to another person is a skill worth cultivating. Listening brings benefits not only to others, but to yourself as well. You’ll find opportunities to elevate your openness and ability to listen with this month’s array of offerings with Five Element Yoga, mudras, stories, poetry, wisdom and more.

The video at the bottom is so cute! With all of life getting ready to burst open into Springtime here in the Northern hemisphere, I could not help but share the sounds and story of a sweet chick who just wants to be held.

I look forward to hearing from you or seeing you soon at a retreat or training – please keep in touch!

In openness,
Jennifer
DEEP LISTENING

Mudra Flow
This flow of mudras will allow you to calm and relax muscular tension in your head, inviting your senses to open to receive, and draw you inward to hear your own inner voice. Stilling and soothing the mind, this flow can improve your ability to genuinely listen to the voices and hearts of others.

Divine Sleep Yoga Nidra Gives The Time Needed For Healing

Bright shining Betty has brought so much joy and peace to herself and so many through her work as a nurse and yoga teacher. Here’s her story:

The body knows how to heal itself. This is something I’ve seen first-hand throughout my professional career as a nurse for over 43 years working in a level-one trauma center in a large inner city hospital. One of the key factors that is needed to allow this natural phenomena of healing to happen is time. Time to be still, quiet and non judgmental.Studies prove that stress is the root cause of most disease and illness. It’s during this ‘peace and quiet time’ that the body repairs and heals itself. And this is why I fell in love with yoga nidra! Because it gives the ‘time’ needed for healing, and also balance to happen.

The Secret Power of Listening

by Jennifer Reis

Listening is a skill that has not always come easy to me. Thankfully I have had the opportunity to develop it over the years with some very skillful teachers and methods at Kripalu Center where for the last twenty years I have had the great fortune of being both a student and teacher.

Listening can bring potency to virtually all aspects of life — personal, professional and spiritual…

Listen Meditation
Wherever you are, cup your hands behind both ears and close your eyes. As best you can, allow all sounds to come to you without pushing any of them away nor wishing they were different…

One of my favorite teachers and writers is Zen Buddhist master Thich Nhat Hanh who has created a beautiful affirmation for deep listening that is the root of understanding, joy and can help to eliminate suffering in our interactions with one another to live together peacefully.

‘Aware of the suffering caused by unmindful speech and the inability to listen to others, I vow to cultivate loving speech and deep listening in order to bring joy and happiness to others and relieve others of their suffering. Knowing that words can create happiness or suffering, I vow to learn to speak truthfully, with words that inspire self-confidence, joy, and hope.

I am determined not to spread news that I do not know to be certain and not to criticize or condemn things of which I am not sure. I will refrain from uttering words that can cause division or discord, or that can cause the family or the community to break. I will make all efforts to reconcile and resolve all conflicts, however small.’
